Over The Edge Productions Views On Working With Black Mattic
Directing the "Superstar" music video for Black Mattic was a real treat. The concept brought us from a police chase scene in Brooklyn to Manhattan's high society as we filmed with Lamborghinis, central park suites, and VIP clubs... all in one day! It was extremely challenging to pull off such an ambitious shot list in only one day, but with an amazing crew and the support and great attitudes of everyone from Official Hitz Music Group, we made it happen. The payoff, of course, was seeing playback of some truly cinematic scenes that were all beautifully shot by director of photography, Brandon Ripley, on the new RED Epic.
The song, "Superstar," was undoubtably stuck in everyone's head by the end of the day. It's an extremely catchy song with a well produced track that seems to push some musical boundaries within the dancehall genre, and could easily make its way to the top of the charts... Just give it time... you'll see.
Working with Black Mattic was a great experience. He's obviously a very passionate and driven artist who has a clear vision, but he was also very trusting of my vision with the video which allowed us to collaborate extremely well. He took direction well too. In many cases, you need to warm the talent up with takes that you know are going to be garbage, but are necessary to get them to where they need to be for that one really good take. In Mattic's case, we didn't need to do much of that. Many times, one take was enough - he has a knack for being in front of the camera.
Especially after reviewing the footage, I'm extremely excited for the final cut of this video. I think the video needs to live up to the quality of the song, and it will. I had a blast working with Black Mattic and am looking forward to what's possible with this project and future videos alike.
